Picking The Perfect Wine Rack For Your Home

For many people starting out, it can be a very difficult and oftentimes overwhelming experience picking out the perfect wine rack. While there are many things to take into consideration when deciding which rack is perfect for your needs, deciding which rack to use to store your collection should never be a cause of stress.

One of the first things to consider when choosing a wine rack is whether you want to store your wine in a vertical or horizontal rack. While some prefer a vertical rack because it allows the labels to be easily viewed, wine stored on these types of racks are more likely to have the cork dry out and shrink causing air to enter the bottle and contaminate the wine. It is for this reason that horizontal wine racks are the most popular choice.

The second and third factors to take into consideration when picking a wine rack are the material it will be constructed of and the style of the rack. There are a variety of styles of wine rack, the most conventional being wall mounted, counter top, hanging and free standing. The most common wine racks are made of metal or wood. If metal is your preference, you can select Vintage View wall mounted wine racks, counter top wine racks, or custom made wrought iron or steel hanging or free standing wine racks. While metal wine racks are commonly made from wrought iron or steel, wooden wine racks are available in an array of finishes. The most frequently used woods used to construct a wooden wine rack are maple, mahogany, and walnut, however pine and redwood are also often used. Choose from single or double finished wall mounted wine racks, free standing wine racks such as Wine Cubes, Waterfalls, and Curved Corner Racks, or counter top racks such as the Pyramid wine rack.

The last thing to consider before purchasing a wine rack is the size of the rack and the cost. Wine racks for personal collecting can cost anywhere between $20.00 and $1000.00, it all depends on the size, style and finish. Even though there are a few things to consider when purchasing a wine rack, the variety of racks out there means that finding the perfect rack for your wine collection is simply a matter of knowing where and what to look for.

BVD package design

Tue, 16 Sep 2008 20:12:42 PDT
Natural delight by BVD, this year’s unique mulled wine from Blossa. A new, exciting taste experience is being introduced for the sixth consecutive year in a bottle designed by BVD. The flavour this year is blueberry. Blossa 08 takes its starting point from what is intrinsically Swedish and natural but delivers it in a modern design. Inspiration from this year’s design came from snowball shapes and the beautiful colours of the blueberry. BVD has been awarded several design prizes for the seri

The Gastronomical Me

Tue, 16 Sep 2008 09:59:06 PDT
Saturday was my “free day” on the Body for Life program; I could eat what I wanted. What I wanted — what I’ve been craving for weeks — was blueberry pancakes. I went to a local diner and enjoyed two enormous pancakes topped with blueberries — not the blueberry compote found in most places (comprising tiny berries and a thick sweet syrup), but about a cup of actual plump plain blueberries. I also had a small plate of eggs and bacon. I could not eat it all. I did not eat anything else that after

Not food related, but what did you locals think of that wind storm this weekend? (for those of you who are not local - here in Ohio we had hurricane-force wind gusts and 45-50mph sustained winds from the remnants of Hurricane Ike, and the town was pretty much crippled - trees and live power lines down everywhere, and 53.9% of the county is without power)? Personally, we made it through just fine, I lost my tomato plant and a couple of pepper plants, plus this big ‘ole tree in my backyard. I’m j

Good Luck - restaurant review

Tue, 16 Sep 2008 04:54:00 PDT
This past weekend I went on a nice girls night out to a new restaurant in town, Good Luck. Micheal the owner of Javas Coffee opened this place recently and I've heard a lot of good things about it. It's a tappa style restaurant (small plates of food to share). Micheal treated us to a bottle of wine which was fantastic thank you again Micheal! The location is in the old fabrics and findings building and is filled with salvaged windows and doors that add a very distinctive intimate feel to the p

I’m back from Maine. From the lesbian commitment ceremony. From camping. In a field. Using a box with a toilet seat nailed to the top of it for my business. From drinking beer from a keg. From singing karaoke. Nobody does “I’ve Never Been to Me” like the Maddog. From being the token gay man who had to make executive decisions on where the couple should get married. (It was an outside wedding). From spending four days shopping with lesbians. Ever shop with lesbians it’s an adventure beyond

Is Rossi gunning for the state Blueberry Commission?

Mon, 15 Sep 2008 21:44:18 PDT
After hearing Republican governor candidate Dino Rossi repeat his line Friday at a meeting of the Gig Harbor Rotary about "changing the tone and tenor" of Olympia through the power of appointments – if he's elected, Rossi says he will get to appoint 1,000 people "from the Blueberry Commission on up" -- I got to wondering if Washington actually has a Blueberry Commission. The answer: Of course it does. The state's got a Barley Commission, Fryer Commission, Potato Commission (not to be confuse

A Meme About Food. Because That’s Something I Can Deal With.

I’m completely blown away by what’s been happening on Wall Street since Friday, but I don’t have anything particularly intelligent to add. There are good articles about it here and here, but the situation keeps changing. Instead of rambling on about moral hazards, financial contagion, and the potential meltdown of the U.S. financial system, I’m going to post about food. I caught this meme about food from Freshhell at Life in Scribbletown. I’m not going to mention chocolate because I’m afra
